Box of the Month — College Hill CrossFit

November’s entry for Box of the Month is College Hill CrossFit, located in Greensboro, North Carolina. We spoke with owner Pam Kontogiorgos to find out what makes her box so special.

Wodify: What makes College Hill CrossFit such a great place to work out?

Pam Kontogiorgos: College Hill CrossFit (CHC) is much more than a group of strangers looking to get fit. It is a community offering support and inspiration to achieve the highest levels of fitness. Friendship, support, challenges and inspiration are on display daily from our trainers and athletes.

W: How many coaches do you have? What types of programming do you offer?

PG: We have six coaches and follow Ben Bergeron's OPEN programming.

W: Do you have a success story about one of your members you'd like to share?

PG: This is from Jeff Davis, a CHC member for over two years:

After spending several years going to a big-box gym, I walked into College Hill Crossfit in July 2015. Needless to say, I was intimidated, but a couple of things that started to put me at ease were the structure and the organization of the class. I instantly noticed a sense of togetherness and camaraderie.

During that first workout, I struggled mightily, but the coach and several other members came around and cheered me on until I finished. Afterwards, we talked about the workout and the areas that were the most challenging. We had persevered and accomplished it together.

Two years later, that sense of camaraderie and community gets stronger with each passing week. I’ve found a real sense of belonging. We lift each other up when we are slacking and we praise each other when we accomplish goals.

Working out at CHC has become the happiest hour of my day, and CHC has become my happy place where I escape from the stresses and pressures of life.

W: How did you get into CrossFit originally?

PG: My best friend Tracy introduced me to CrossFit in 2011. It took her 4 months to get me to sign up for a class.

W: What made you take the leap into box ownership?

PG: My passion has always been in the fitness industry. After a year into CrossFit, I knew this was where I could make the most impact within the fitness community.

W: What made you implement Wodify Core? Were you using another gym management system prior to Wodify Core?

PG: College Hill CrossFit was using Mind Body Online and transitioned to Wodify Core as it has a more comprehensive user interface.

W: How has it been received by your coaches and athletes?

PG: After a couple of months of implementing Wodify Core, our athletes fell in LOVE with it as they could capture their data and monitor their results. Coaches love that they can also leverage percentages and track an athlete’s progress prior to class, or simply comment on an athlete’s performance.

W: What about on the backend? Has it helped you as a business owner?

PG: The backend is brilliant. For our growth and constant pursuit of excellence, Wodify Core has given us the time to focus on growing our community versus spending unproductive time on administrative aspects of the business.

W: Do you have a favorite feature?

PG: Our favorite feature is the calendar view of WODs and classes. It makes it very easy for us to discuss our programming/classes and see how everything lines up, which helps us position ourselves to provide the highest quality service possible.

W: Is there anything special going on at the box that the CrossFit community might be interested in?

PG: We are currently running the PE program for a nearby non-profit school, providing a physical education class for students and using Wodify Core to help track their progress.
