We love highlighting our amazing affiliates who spend their days motivating their members and improving their lives. Our July Box of the month,CrossFit Soul Miami, does just that each day. With positive attitudes and outlooks, we’re proud to share their story with you.
Can you please give us a brief background on yourself and your gym? CrossFit Soul Miami opened in 2010. Our first gym was a 1,000 sq ft warehouse in a small neighborhood. We opened with about 10 friends that wanted a place to train. Today we have a 6,000 sq ft gym on an acre of land with 200+ clients. Our focus is always quality of training and client value over quantity. We have no desire to have the biggest gym –just the best one.
Were you using any other management system, software or pen and paper, before beginning to use Wodify? We started with Mind Body Online. Worked well, but we soon outgrew what they were able to offer.
What made you decide to implement Wodify? We were looking for a platform where we could handle our schedule, keep track of workouts, send out announcements, etc. We also wanted something more user-friendly than what we were previously using. We loved the idea of athletes being able to track their maxes and PRs through the app. Wodify also made scheduling way easier. Overall, it got our athletes more engaged in their classes, and that’s what we were looking for.
What was the onboarding and installation process like? The onboarding process took some time because of how busy the gym can get. We had to migrate over a ton of information — athlete information, scheduling, etc. The folks over at Wodify made it way easier by helping any time we needed them.
How was Wodify received in your box by your athletes/coaches? Since we gather our athletes around the whiteboard before every class it generated interest immediately. People were stoked on being able to log their results and edit their own profiles. A lot of funny profile pictures and usernames at first. Coaches were relieved on how easy it was to sign in athletes and log results on something that kept track of your progress rather then writing and erasing our workouts on the whiteboard and in notebooks.
How did you drive adoption and encourage users to log their results? Since we started with Wodify around the Crossfit Open we would have all our athletes log their results after doing their Open workouts. By the time the Open was finished most of our athletes were used to the system.
Did you notice changes in how your athletes performed after beginning to see their results in Wodify? We definitely noticed a change. It seems to have brought the gym closer together. Now our 5pm class can compete against our 6am class or any other class for that matter. Logging your own results and being able to see the results of our other sessions has brought a lot of our athletes together, and created a ton of friendly competition.
What would you say to people who think technology does not belong in a box? In our case it is 100% necessary. We wouldn’t be able to maintain a cap on our classes, adjust our schedule, create accurate reports for administrative purposes, send notes to clients, etc with out something like Wodify. It definitely has a place in our box, and if you run asuccessful box/gym it should have a place in yours as well.
