How CrossFit gyms can use video to drive growth

You got into Crossfit because you’re the type of person who rises to the occasion, challenges themselves, and wants to get better. It’s probably the reason why you became an affiliate owner too. No one said it was going to be easy - the long hours you put in are just the beginning. You have goals and you’ve experimented with what works and what doesn’t.

You probably think I’m talking about fitness, training, and coaching… but I’m not! I’m talking about building your box into a great place for members to come and participate in the community that you started.

I’m going to tell you something you already know, but need to hear again…if you want to grow, then it’s all about creating a place for your members to get away from the grind so they can do some grinding of their own. It’s about creating a culture of positivity and support; a place they can’t stop talking to their friends about.

So how do you build upon your existing culture, along with adding more motivated athletes? One proven strategy is showing potential members who is really doing CrossFit at your box and what that looks like. And the best way to show them is through video.

Let’s take my friends at Back Alley CrossFit in Phoenix, AZ as an example. They’ve been growing steadily for years. But as soon as we started creating videos for their box, members started to see those who participated in the videos in a different, positive light. Members who had questions were suddenly equipped with more ammunition to improve their performance. The most exciting part was when current members started sending videos to their friends and colleagues…and those friends and colleagues started walking in the door!

The thought of producing a video can be overwhelming. You could do it yourself with a cell phone, but that’s not the type of quality your box and members deserve. Stick to what you’re best at, and find a video production partner to help with the rest. Sure, it will cost a bit of money,  but it’s an investment in your business and the outputs (videos and social media material) will help you for years.

When members galvanize together, attendance rises, and they start inviting their friends (doing all of the selling for you). At that point, they’ll start to have a sense of “ownership” toward your box and will want to fill it up with great members…and they won’t mind paying more!
