As a fitness business owner, one of the most common questions you may find yourself asking is, how can I increase the revenue at my gym? We put together three easy ideas to help spark some creative revenue-generating opportunities through current and future members. When owners start thinking about bringing in a new stream of revenue, most are quick to think it requires bringing in new members but don’t forget about the clients already in your gym. Here are our 3 easy revenue-boosting ideas that you can implement today!

1. Lean on your existing members

Every gym owner has members who always stay late after class to master new skills, never miss a day, and love getting even just 2 minutes of your coaches’ time for tips or feedback. Have you ever taken the opportunity to sell them 1-on-1 sessions with their favorite coach to work on the technique, and learn new skills? Offer your existing members personal skill sessions to keep track of their performance. You already have the facility, now you can find a way to sell a more personalized experience in a small group setting. Work out with your friends and have a goal in mind - Sign us up! Running a specialized 5-week program targeted at different group goals can be a simple source of revenue for your gym. For example: In April, you could start a “Summer Slimdown” program focused on muscle toning, leaning out, and feeling confident in your bathing suit!

Pro tip: Make sure you are following up with leads! The likelihood of a prospect joining reduces by 25% every day that goes by. Yes, that means that by day 3 they’re 75% less likely to join your gym. You could call them first, then SMS on day two, and email on day three. The most important part of the follow-up process you chose, is that all of your sales staff follows.

3. Don’t forget the swag

It’s important to remember that each one of your members has a schedule and lifestyle outside of your gym. Therefore, your retail should be a mix of fitness essentials and day-to-day essentials. We know you are proud of your branding and now is the perfect chance to show it off. Start branding coffee mugs, water bottles, duffel bags, t-shirts, winter hats, or even keychains with your logo and colors. Your members are most likely on a tight schedule running in and out of your front doors, so if they forget something from home it’s likely they buy it at the gym. They will then go out into the world carrying this water bottle or wearing this hat around that has your branding on it, think of it as a walking billboard for your company.
