We are excited to announce CrossFit Durbell, our first CrossFit box in South Africa as Wodify’s Box of the Month. CrossFit Durbell opened in December 2012 and currently has 46 active members. They are located in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town noted for being one of the larger and and sportier regions in Cape Town where CrossFit is becoming increasingly popular. CrossFit Durbell’s current athletes have varying degrees of athletic ability which owner, Garth High, says can be very challenging and exciting. We asked Garth about his experience with Wodify since December and he had this to say:
How was Wodify received in your box by your athletes and coaches initially?
From the start, the athletes and coaches saw the system as a great way to track their training. From the coaches persepctive, its been very helpful and great to use. We continue to learn the system and aim to use it to its full capacity. I am slowly trying to get athletes to use the food journal but in class, athletes are very good with entering results and checking their information.
How did you drive adoption and encourage users to log their results?
In class, I encourage them to compare themselves to each other based on how they scaled the workout or strength exercise. They are always trying to do the workout RX’ed and to better their scores from previous days.
What would you say to people who thought technology does not belong in the box?
We are using our cell phones all the time to do things and keep notes and information instead of notebooks so it just makes sense to use the Wodify system. Especially after a workout when you are all sweaty. I have been showing off Wodify at all of our events and box owners are loving it.
How has Wodify changed your box if at all?
It has made my time spent with athletes and before class easier so that I don’t have to write names on the whiteboard and get the classes up. Athletes like how easy it is to easy to log thier scores and class booking and scheduling from their cell phone.
How has Wodify changed you personal day to day?
I have used the system since the box opend so it has made my life of programming and system support easy from the get go. I would not use any other system.
Do you see your athletes pushing harder? Striving to Rx more often? Making gains more often?
The guys are always pushing to try and achieve the Rx version of the workout and get better scores all the time. I try to make sure that they are always getting better but not overdoing it in every class so that they understand getting better will take time.
