How to engage gym members with challenges this summer

Summer fitness can go one of two ways for gyms looking to get more bodies into their buildings as the weather improves. First of all, with more sunshine and warmer temperatures, people generally are more motivated to exercise, especially with bathing suit season coming on so rapidly. However, the nicer weather means these people are more likely to take that newfound motivation to the great outdoors.

We all love a good run through the woods or a nice bike ride on an area trail, but as gym owners, we also want to make sure that customers (and potential customers) are getting into the gym as well. We know that a big part of successful weight loss comes from the community and workout routine associated with gym membership, but how do we keep customers in the building when it’s just so beautiful outside?

The answer may lie with summer fitness challenges, but if you want to properly engage your gym members, you’ll want to make sure you’re setting up these challenges the right way.

1. Keep things simple

If you really want people to participate in a summer gym challenge, you will need to present them with a sign-up and participation process that is simple. 2. Keep things fun

One of the biggest benefits of using a fitness challenge app is that it allows you, the gym owner, to communicate with everybody involved in the challenge. Participants can see the leaderboard and get messages and reminders about entering food or exercise or steps into the app. Furthermore, use your gym’s social media accounts to drum up excitement for these challenges, announce dates of future challenges, and congratulate the winners. The more public these contests are, the more successful they are bound to be.
