Jason Khalipa has his hands in many pots and they all are thriving. Check out what he has to say about the fitness industry, his businesses, and how he got to where he is today.
A: I started working at the health club my parents were members at when I was 16 at the front desk. I witnessed first hand the incredible impacts exercise could provide members and wanted to dedicate my life to it. Over time my passion for fitness and business grew, working sales through college, and then opening my own gym once I graduated.
A: From a young age I knew I wanted to own a gym, it wasn't until I found CrossFit in 2016 that it all clicked, though. Combining a coach, a clock, and a positive energy were very impactful on how I opened our first location. Over the years, we transitioned from CrossFit.com programming to our own, eventually we realized through practical application that we needed to provide a variety of programs making it more accessible for our members.
A: My love for coaching started when I was in college and saw the benefits training had provided me, I wanted to provide these same benefits to as many people as possible.
A: Start slow and stay consistent. We want to be as fit as possible for as long as possible. I'd recommend creating a new routine that you can stick with, then overtime incorporate more training days.
A: It's important to understand why you are competing in the first place. Why do you want to compete? Competition gets very challenging, if you don't have a strong reason why you are there in the first place, it will be challenging to be successful and easy to quit when things get tough.
A: I have had so many amazing memories competing. My favorite was probably coming into the soccer stadium at the Home Depot Center in the 2013 Games at the end of the Burden Run. I was in the lead and felt pretty confident I would win the event with only a sled pull left. As I ran through the tunnel and into the stadium; the place erupted! It was like no other feeling in the world, that was an amazing event and year.
A: I am a big fan these days of the burpee and thruster, two highly effective movements that pack a punch and provide great results.
A: We have had many amazing moments from expanding globally and growing our team to hosting blood drives and internal competitions. However, my favorite memory was watching one of our members propose to his girlfriend after class in the middle of the gym. It was a beautiful moment for the couple but also a great reflection of our goal as a business and community. Having an environment that connects to members in such a way that they would feel compelled enough to celebrate that moment with us, I'll never forget that.
