In the last five years, CrossFit has completely taken over the fitness industry. Boxes have popped up all over the country and CrossFitters are some of the most enthusiastic fitness buffs on the planet.
There are so many exciting things on the horizon for CrossFit in 2018. Here are the top CrossFit trends to look out for this year!
In the earliest days of CrossFit, most athletes learned WODs from grainy YouTube videos of a few people lifting tires in their garages. But in just a few years, there have been a slew of smartphone apps that have completely revolutionized the way that people workout and track their progress.
Expect the new year to bring a slew of new and improved apps that streamline features and make it easier than ever to get in a WOD no matter where you are.
The official CrossFit Instagram account is coming up on one million followers. Some individual CrossFit champions, like Camille LeBlanc and Rich Froning, have several hundred thousands followers themselves. As CrossFit grows in popularity, expect more of these types of social media stars to pop up.
As a whole, we expect CrossFit to grow in 2018. This past year, 42 percent of all people doing CrossFit were between the ages of 25 and 34. We would expect to see a boost in the 18-24 group (only six percent in 2017) and the 35-44 age group (19 percent). As people discover more ways to personalize WODs, more participants in other age groups are sure to find their way to the sport.
Those running CrossFit competitions are going to have an easier time than ever organizing their events, from collecting money, signing online waivers, and even posting live scores. Paper-and-pencil records, as well as sloppy filing and old-fashioned gym business practices all are things of the past.
With excellent CrossFit competition software like the one Wodify Arena provides, the future of these events looks incredibly bright.
But then again, so does everything else in the world of CrossFit. This no longer is a niche activity practiced only by die-hards. It is an ever-growing fitness movement that has done so much for helping so many people get into the best shape of their lives.
New Year's Resolutions for 2018 are coming, and many of them are sure to include CrossFit in some way. Luckily, the New Year is going to bring a lot of exciting things for those ready to dive right in.
