At the end of April, staff members from both Wodify donated their time to the local Habitat for Humanity Restore in South Philadelphia. Teams broke into small groups with other volunteers, rolled up their sleeves, and gave assistance where needed. Lifting heavy items off of delivery trucks onto the store floor, organizing new donations, helping shoppers find what they were seeking, and moving items into the loading area once sold were just in a day’s work for all staff and volunteers. The Restore collects home goods, building supplies, and furniture through tax-deductible donations. Once at the store, staff and volunteers check and clean items thoroughly and they are then put out on the floor and tagged for sale. Items range from dishes, candle holders, books, decorations, to bed frames, and even 16-piece kitchen cabinet sets (two sets were sold while the team was volunteering!).
Wodify have a strong Philanthropic mission woven into the core of both companies – promising to donate 1% of time, 1% of services, and 1% of profits to the community at large. This 1:1:1 program is evident in many ways but not the least of which was the overwhelming team participation and effort put forth the final Friday in April during a notably busy time.
Organizing and moving around inventory is tough work and the rate at which things are dropped off and sold there, the South Philadelphia location expressed incredible thanks to the 24 team members that devoted their time for the day. The manager and employees of the store had glowing reviews of the day, noting that everyone involved was a hard worker with a great attitude, pushing hard to get things done. The Restore Manager even extended an invite to return to the team as a shining , “job well done!”.
The Restore sees all types of shoppers throughout the day – first-time homebuyers, college students, DIY-ers, vintage decorators, and those that need to furnish their home with some gently used goods. 100% of profits from sales help those in the Habitat network of families achieve safe and affordable homeownership. Habitat families work with volunteers and employees to build their home from the ground up adding their sweat equity to the mix.
In an effort to use data to inform our future philanthropy events, all participants were polled on their experience and the results were overwhelmingly positive. Working shoulder-to-shoulder on a project for the product allows everyone to shine professionally; whereas, participating in service allows all to be stars in their own way working with and for the community in which we live. Getting to see the vibrancy and joy that all in the Wodify and Conigent crew beamed truly marked a great day giving back.
After our time at the Restore, the team bonding continued at a local bowling alley for some relaxation, fun, and (of course) competition. Turns out there are some sleepers on the Wodify bowling team! These Philanthropy events occur quarterly and the planning team is already hard at work finding another part of our local community that will take us in and allow us to lend a hand and some experience to make where we live that much better.
