On November 24th the Wodify team gathered bright and early at the BNY Mellon Center in Philadelphia to participate in a fundraiser to support the Special Olympics of Pennsylvania (SOPA) program. SOPA is a not-for-profit organization that offers sports training and athletic competition to children and adults with intellectual disabilities. SOPA-Philly offers Special Olympics programming in 25 Philadelphia public schools and many community venues throughout the city. All sports training, competitions and healthcare are offered to kids and adults with intellectual disabilities at no cost. Thus, fundraisers like Step Up are critical to making these opportunities available. The Fundraiser consisted of five different events including the CrossFit Climb Challenge, a tough WOD followed by a timed ascent up 53 flights of stairs. The event was kicked off by some of the Special Olympics athletes as we recited the oath, “Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.”
The entire Wodify team participated in the day’s events. The CrossFit Climb Challenge was programmed by one of our affiliates, Rob Miller of CrossFit Delaware Valley. The WOD involved three rounds of 21 kettlebell swings, 15 box jumps, and 9 burpees, followed by the 53 flights of stairs. Our legs were burning by the end of it but it was great to sweat it out together for a good cause. Of course in typical Wodify fashion, what better way to end a great day then with a couple of craft beers and burgers (without the bun, of course) at the local pub!
This event was selected as part of Wodify’s 1-1-1 Philanthropy Program, the company donates 1% of its profits and 1% of its products and services to charitable causes, and all employees donate 1% of their time. Each quarter, the entire Wodify team comes together to support a charitable event like Step Up.
