In this Behind the Numbers (BTN as we call it behind the scenes) blog post, we will uncover groundbreaking data on:

The Data Uncovered

Top 5 Strength Components

After analyzing all results logged over-time within Wodify Perform, we uncovered the top 5 most logged workout components:

  1. Back Squat: 14,437,684 results logged
  2. Deadlift: 9,209,282 results logged 
  3. Bench Press: 5,826,820 results logged
  4. Snatch: 3,398,038 results logged
  5. Clean & Jerk: 2,9111,638 results logged

Though it is highly dependent on how often the gym programs specific movements and how often the client logs their results, our results show the median time until a member logs the 50th result for each component as follows:

  1. Back Squat: 916 days (or 2.51 years)
  2. Deadlift: 1,270 days (or 3.48 years)
  3. Bench Press: 1,034 days (or 2.83 years)
  4. Snatch: 995 days (or 2.73 years)
  5. Clean & Jerk: 1,072 days (or 2.94 years)

The typical member experiences considerable improvements after 50 logged workout results, but it takes consistency over a long period of time to accomplish this.

How fast do members improve?

Now that we know how long it typically takes for a member to log their 50th workout result in Wodify, we wonder how much improvement takes place in that time.

Using the random sample of these millions of results, the rate at which clients improve in each component is shown in the graph below.

The key takeaways from this graph:

  1. Beginner gains are apparent

The typical member improves by 25-30% from their initial result in 4 of 5 of these workout components

  1. Growth slows, but it never really stops

Although the fastest rate of improvement for member is from the 1st result to the 10th, member still see ~5% improvement every 10 results after

  1. Not all components are created equal

We can see that the typical member has improved from their initial result to their 50th in each component as follows:

  1. Back Squat: 46.59%
  2. Deadlift: 50.42%
  3. Bench Press: 32.06%
  4. Snatch: 48.65%
  5. Clean & Jerk: 43.33%

Below is a more detailed breakdown of the median back squat improvement since the initial result.

 

The Impact to a Fitness Business Owner’s Bottom Line

Logging performance results are crucial! Not only to members, but also for gym & studio owners in order to improve member retention. Remember, maximizing members; use of performance tracking can increase your retention by 20%, which means increasing your revenue by thousands of dollars (check out this infographic here for more detailed info).
