In Part 1 of our Continuing Education Series, we broke down the different certifications and learning avenues for the CrossFit World. In Part 2, we will dive into how you can become a well-rounded Martial Arts master.
The community of Martial Arts dates back to 3697 BC where instructors and teachers were held in high regard and standards. The main rule of thumb to become a respected instructor of the art is to hold a black belt where becoming a professor leans on the “pass it on the philosophy”.
To achieve a black belt, the student must put in a dedication and consistency over long periods of time. Depending on the style of Martial Arts, obtaining a black belt can take anywhere between 5 to 10 years while training multiple times a week. With that being said, the best teacher of Martial Arts is experience and time.
We highly recommend going the traditional route of putting in dedication and time, but there are also avenues that you can pair with the experience on the mat. One option is signing up for a course with the Global Martial Arts University. The ranks you can earn along the way are “recognized by the Global Martial Arts Association. This association is an internationally accredited organization of martial-arts instructors”.
Remember knowledge of the arts is not the only important part of becoming a successful Martial Arts instructor but you also have to have the knowledge of how to command a room - this is also gained through time and dedication. If your knowledge of Martial Arts is already in the bag, consider going through a general Martial Arts fitness certification. This will help you feel more prepared to lead a group of individuals with confidence and poise.
