Close out the year with a strong finish by participating in one of these CrossFit competitions occurring in December. We’ve shared our top picks for events in the U.S. taking place right before the holidays:
The 2017 Reindeer Games will take place at Big Muddy CrossFit, which is located at 1317 East Front Ave. in Bismarck, North Dakota. This is a same-sex partner CrossFit style competition with three divisions: Scaled, RX, and Masters (40+). The event is slated to run on Saturday, Dec. 2 from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., with the winning team in each division winning a $200 cash reward. Spectators are welcome and will be admitted to cheer on the athletes for no charge.
This year’s Misfit Toys Throwdown, powered by USA Hauling & Recycling, is a two-person, same-sex team competition that will be held at CrossFit Revelation in Enfield, Connecticut from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2. The gym does ask that all participants bring a monetary donation for the Ben Callahan Foundation or a new, unwrapped gift on the day of the competition to donate to needy kids during the holidays.
This event not only allows athletes to flex their muscles, but also to air their grievances, as CrossFit participants celebrate Festivus in sweaty clothes. The event is slated to take place on Saturday, Dec. 9 starting at 8:00 a.m. at FiveStar in Warrington, Pennsylvania. All divisions will compete in three guaranteed WODs and one Floater WOD with a Championship WOD for the top athletes of the day in each division. There also will be a “Festivus Master’s Pole Championship,” which includes one final WOD for the top males and females over the age of 40.
This event will be the last of the Texas Teen Series events for 2017 and is open to teenage athletes between 14-17. Slated for December 9 starting at 9:00 a.m. at StoneYard CrossFit, this event looks to track the best teen athletes as they compete against their peers in weightlifting, gymnastics, running, rowing and several other events throughout the day.
With the holidays reserved for the last two weeks of December, the Freakin’ Gauntlet event on Saturday, Dec. 16 is one of the last of 2017. This team event will begin at 8:00 a.m. at Freakin’ CrossFit in Pembroke Pines, Florida, featuring coed teams of up to six competitors, each of which features three women and three men. Teams will participate in a number of varied WODs to see which can top the field before taking a few weeks off to recover from holiday travel and, perhaps more daunting, holiday food.
It is not too late to sign up for one last CrossFit event in 2017. Of course there will be many more events in 2018, but looking ahead to one of these competitions can help athletes keep their motivation to stay fit through the holiday season!
